Rosemary Kennedy Lane, 97, of Manhattan, NY passed away peacefully on Monday May 10th, 2021.
Rosemary was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Walter and Harriet (Mullen) Kennedy and was the eldest of 5 children. She was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of Fontbonne Hall Academy and attended Brooklyn College.
Rosemary was a child performer who acted, sang, and even tap-danced on the radio in the 1930’s, as one of “Uncle Robert’s Radio Pals.” Rosemary was accomplished and beautiful and landed summer singing engagements as a teen on the St. Lawrence River Cruises in the early 1940’s.
Rosemary worked at Bell Laboratories, Manhattan on various research and development projects, most notably the Visible Speech Project.
She was swept off her feet in 1949 by a dashing young firefighter and married Daniel Joseph Lane also of Brooklyn, NY. Their long and happy marriage produced seven children, eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Settling in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, Rosemary was very involved in the local civic association, garden club, the Catholic church, and Girl Scouts.
Rosemary is survived by her children, Daniel (Lynn), Eileen (Bo), Christopher (Maria), Maureen (Ulf), Rosemary, Nancy, and Virginia.
Known as “Grandmom”, her gentle and nurturing soul will forever be missed by her grandchildren, Erik, Chris, Mary, Brian, Kevin, Colin, Dan, Kathy, Megan, Chris, Matts, Thomas, Helene, Annie, Mike, Liz, Tom, and Danny.
Great-grandchildren Brenden, Katie, Leah, Lila, Emilia, and Axel and 26 nieces and nephews will miss her in their lives.
Rosemary is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Harriet, her husband Dan, brothers Blake, Walter and Lou and her sister Eileen.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to EWTN, CNEWA, or Calvary Hospice.
A viewing is planned for Friday May 14th at John Krtil Funeral Home in Manhattan. Rosemary’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday May 15th at the church of St. Monica’s, NYC at 10am. Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY
