Thomas Timothy O'Connor, known to his loved ones as "Tom," passed away on September 8, 2023, at the age of 77, in Washington, D.C. He was born on July 11, 1946, in Bronx, New York. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles J. O'Connor and Anne H. O'Connor.
Tom's long and diverse career was marked by service and dedication. After spending 12 years working for Catholic Charities in child welfare, he transitioned into the business world where his talent and skills for connecting with people led to an accomplished career as a senior human resources executive with several top global organizations. Tom was also an accomplished athlete having completed over a dozen races including New York City, Boston, Jersey Shore and the U.S. Marine Corps Marathons.
Tom had a deep love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them especially at their family home in East Orleans, MA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia Dwyer O'Connor (Washington, D.C.) and their children, Patrick (Katharina) O'Connor (Darien, CT) and Aimee (Edward) Donahue. (Washington, D.C.). Tom also leaves behind his siblings, Kathleen (Robert Donovan Jr.) Glynn (Walnut Creek, CA) and Mary Ellen (Steve) Shyne (Kinnelon, NJ). His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Charles O'Connor, William O'Connor, Peter O'Connor, Thomas Donahue, and Lucy Donahue.
Tom attended Our Lady of Refuge Elementary School and Cardinal Hayes High School where he also played football. He earned his bachelor's degree in Greek and Philosophy at St. Joseph's Seminary before completing his master's degree in education in Psychology and Counseling from Seton Hall University.
Tom took full advantage of his retirement traveling alongside his wife Trish, revisiting many of the countries he had previously visited during his professional career. One of his more special trips was to Glann, County Mayo, Ireland where Tom finally met his relatives.
In his last years, Tom continued to cherish his time with Trish on Cape Cod. Enjoying sunsets, drives on the beach, attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with his extended family.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 16, 2023, at 12pm at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, located at 980 Park Avenue in New York, New York.
